Health and Social Care NVQ Level 2, 3 and 4
Health & Social Care NVQ Level 2
Candidates should be working in the care sector e.g. residential, learning disability, domiciliary or nursing, and have at least 6 months practical experience. Ideally candidates should be working to, or have achieved the induction/foundation framework for care/learning disability
H&S NVQ: Level 2
Health & Social Care NVQ2 provides all care and support workers with recognition for the day-to-date care given to their client group.
NVQ Level 2 Qualification Requirement
At level 2 all candidates employed in the Health & Social Care sector must be assessed in the 4 core units and 2 optional units.
Health & Social Care NVQ Level 3
Candidates at this level should have a minimum 6 months experience of working in a supervisory or senior role in their chosen care sector e.g., residential, nursing, domiciliary, learning disability etc. Candidates should have undertaken training, both statutory and non-statutory, and may have achieved a Level 2 qualification.
H&S NVQ: Level 3
Candidates at this level may wish to progress to health & social care management level. The level 3 NVQ qualification will give the candidate the grounding to do this effectively.
NVQ Level 3 Qualification requirement
At level 3 health & social care candidates will achieve 8 units of competence, 4 of which are core units. Please note that there is no direct transfer between levels. All candidates must achieve the full qualification
Health & Social Care NVQ Level 4
Candidates should have a wide experience of working in the health & social care sector in a managerial capacity. Be responsible for staff, and accountable for coordinating a care service.
H&S NVQ: Level 4
All managers of a health & social care service are required to hold the relevant level qualifications under the Care Standards Act. Those managers with no qualifications in nursing or social work will benefit from this award.
NVQ Level 4 Qualification requirement
At level 4, candidates will achieve 8 units of competence, 4 of which are core and 4 optional.
Level 2 NVQ in Health and Social Care
The level 2 qualification is aimed at those who support and assist individuals with their physical or emotional care, daily living needs or maintaining their independence. It is extremely relevant for home care assistants, community support assistants, healthcare assistants, and residential or day service assistants.
Level 3 NVQ in Health and Social Care (Adults and Children and Young People)
The level 3 qualification is aimed at individuals who often work without direct supervision or on their own, perhaps in a user's own home. To achieve the level 3 qualification learners need to complete four mandatory and four optional units.
Level 4 NVQ in Health and Social Care (Adults and Children and Young People)
The level 4 qualification is aimed at people in supervisory or management roles. To achieve the level 4 qualification the learner will need to complete eight units, of which four are mandatory.
How are the health & social care level 2, 3, 4 qualifications delivered and assessed?
These NVQ qualifications are work based awards and learners' skills and knowledge are assessed in the workplace whilst they are working directly with individuals and colleagues. They must be working in a real health or social care setting on a full or part time basis and in paid or voluntary work. If learners require any additional training prior to assessment this can be based in or out of the workplace or by distance or e-learning.
